ODISHA STATE WATERMANSHIP & LIFE GUARD INSTITUTE (OSWALI), RAMACHANDI, PURI
Government has been pleased to establish OSWALI (Odisha State Watermanship and Lifeguard Institute) at the river bank of Kushabhadra River near Ramachandi, Puri adjacent to Bay of Bengal Vide Govt. Notification No.380/Home (CD) Dtd.22/04/2015. This Institute is functioning w.e.f Dt.22.02.2014 .Some of the key features of this institute are highlighted in the following points.
Aim & Objectives- The aim & objective of this Training Institute is to Impart Watermanship Course of Training and build the capacity of Fire Service personnel to make them more efficient in aquatic skills which are essential in their profession. Training on Swimming, Boat Driving, SCUBA Diving and Water Rescue techniques are being rendered by specialized trainers of Odisha Fire Service. These training facilities are being provided to Fire Service personnel and trainees from other state Fire Service organizations and establishment as well.
Sanction Strength of the institute: -
Government has been pleased to sanction the following Posts to OSWALI.
1. Fire Officer (Principal):-1 no.
2. Chief Swimming – Cum- Boat Supervisor (Asst. Fire Officer):-1 no.
3. Swimming –Cum- Boat training Supervisor (Station Officer):-2 nos.
4. Senior Swimming –Cum- Boat Instructor (Asst Station Officer):- 2 nos.
5. Swimming Cum Boat Instructor – (Leading Fireman):-4 nos.
6. Fireman: -4 nos.
7. Water carrier (part time) 1 no.
8. Sweeper (part time) 1 no.
Present Strength of the institute:-

3. Swimming –Cum- Boat training Supervisor (Station Officer):-2 nos.

5. Swimming Cum Boat Instructor – (Leading Fireman):-5 nos.
6. Fireman: - 6 nos.
7. Driver Havildar:- 1 no.
8. Fireman Driver (FMD):- 1 no.
9. Water carrier ( part time):- 1 no.
10. Sweeper ( part time):- 1 no.
Training imparted : - Till date this institution has imparted Watermanship training to Odisha Fire Service personnel, Andhra Pradesh Fire Service Personnel, Nagaland Fire service Personnel and Odisha Home guard Volunteers. Till date 5026 nos. trainees have completed their Watermanship Training in 77 batches.
