Home Guards at a Glance
The Home Guards organisation in Odisha came into existence in the year 1961. Since then, Home Guard volunteers have been rendering valuable services to the society in co-operation with the police for maintenance of internal security, law and order, prevention of crime, apprehension of criminals, traffic regulation, VIP security, night patrolling and watch and ward duties etc. They render voluntary services during natural calamities like floods and cyclones etc. and have also been declared as Auxiliary Fire Force under Section- 6 of Orissa Fire Service Act, 1993.
The sanctioned strength of Home Guards in the State is 17,675.
Home Guards
The Home Guards organization in Odisha came into being in the year 1961. Since then, Home Guard volunteers have been rendering valuable services to the society in co-operation with the police for maintenance of internal security, law & order, prevention of crime, apprehension of criminals, traffic regulation, VIP security, night patrolling and watch and ward duties etc. They also render voluntary service during natural calamities like floods and cyclones etc., Govt. of Odisha in Home (CD) Deptt. Resolution No. 1876/CD, dtd.09.11.2001 have also declared Home Guards as auxiliary of the Fire Service u/s 6 of Odisha Fire Service Act – 1993.
Indian citizen within the age group of 20-60 years and having passed lower primary examination are appointed as Home Guards by District Commandants to act as Home Guards volunteers in the State.
The present sanctioned strength of Home Guards volunteers in our State is 17,675.
The Home Guards are employed in guarding public and private sector undertakings, banks and important units under Govt. of India like DRDO and ITR Chandipur.
A Home Guard gets Duty Call up Allowance per day for 8 hours of duty w.e.f. 01.01.2018.
